PII, or personal identifiable information, includes any type of data that can be traced back to a specific individual. This list only scratches the surface of items that count as personally identifiable information:
- Name
- Address
- Email
- Telephone number
- Date of birth
- Passport number
- Fingerprint
- Driver’s license number
- Credit/debit card number
- Social security number
If a piece of information is unique to a student, or can lead back to them in any way, it is private and needs to be protected with the utmost care. One of the easiest steps to take is to make use of your provided institutional email address. Not only does this protect any student information held in your mailbox as it is within our network, but also provides consistency for the students.
