What is a Business Case?

In the context of Coast Mountain College Information Technology resources;

A business case provides justification for obtaining hardware, software or service, or undertaking a project.

This typically takes the form of a service request or document submitted to CMTN IT by a CAT member or their delegate.

A business case should clearly state the problem, business need, benefits, and rationale.  This allows CMTN to make an informed decision about how and if to fulfill a request.  A business case is not meant to be used as a justification for a decision already made.

Business cases will be revisited if requests change materially during the course of fulfillment.
