'BlueJeans by Verizon' has been a Coast Mountain College Video Conferencing service of choice, alongside our Polycom systems, since 2017. At that time, it was not 'by Verizon' but it was an award winning independent cloud based service with an eye towards usability. Stu Aaron, the company's CCO has been quoted as saying, "Ultimately, what we're trying to do is make video conferencing as comfortable and as casual as your pair of jeans." Thus the name, BlueJeans.
Over the years, BlueJeans has kept steady pace with the needs of Coast Mountain College. When the COVID 19 Pandemic required us to temporarily provide fully remote education to our students, as well as attend all of our meetings virtually, BlueJeans played a fundamental role in our success.
BlueJeans provides Faculty with a platform of evolving functionality such as Breakout Rooms, Presentation Mode, Captioning and more for delivering class time. Outside of the classroom, this service supports Coast Mountain College in engaging our wider communities through open access events.
While Coast Mountain College has now returned to predominantly Face to Face classes, the functionality and flexibility of virtual classroom space continues to play a role in our expanded understanding of what experiential place based learning can truly be.
